BENSALEM, PA (KTVI) - Thousands of drivers are stuck on the Pennsylvania Turnpike after hundreds of cars pile up on the icy road.

According to our sister station, FOX29 News in Philadelphia, several cars started crashing into each other after 8 a.m. local time during the Friday rush hour.  About 20-30 cars are estimated to have crashed in 2-3 separate pileups in the eastbound lanes of the turnpike in Bensalem, about 20 minutes north of Pennsylvania.

Drivers were seen getting out of their cars and walking in the driving lanes, after traffic had come to a complete standstill.

Authorities shut down the westbound lanes intermittently, so first responders could reach victims in the eastbound lanes.

No word on any injuries at this time.
