(KTVI) – A small kitchen fire while cooking potato pancakes in his parents’ house landed Mike Glazer a spot on the Food Network show, “Worst Cooks in America.” Season five starts Monday, Feb. 17.

Glazer’s girlfriend Lindsay Monahan sent “Worst Cooks” Glazer’s name as a surprise, according to the St. Louis Post Dispatch.

Potential contestants had to submit a dish as part of the audition. Glazer made one of his personal favorite dishes – a sandwich of lunch meat, garlic hummus and crunchy peanut butter.

Glazer told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that for the first episode, contestants were asked to cook a dish that represents them. He said being on the show has made him love cooking.

Glazer is a 2001 graduate of Parkway North High School and has a degree in script writing from Webster University. He worked with Second City comedy troupe in Chicago and moved to Los Angeles last July, according to the St. Louis Post Dispatch.

He plans to connect with his family in St. Louis via FaceTime for the show’s debut on Monday.
