HOUSE SPRINGS, MO (KTVI) – The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating the death of two students from Northwest High School. Matthew Roskowske, 18, and Cameron Stewart, 15, were good friends. They died following a one-car crash on Carol Park Road in House Springs.
Investigators say Roskowske was driving a 2000 Pontiac Sunfire with Stewart in the car. The vehicle traveled off the road Saturday night at approximately 10:15pm. The car crashed into a row of trees before flipping. An accident reconstruction team identified a straight line of skid marks leading in the direction of the crash site.
A vigil was held Sunday at the high school. Some students brought photos of the victims to the crash site. They attached the photos to a row of crosses.
“They were just your average high school kids who wanted to have fun,” said Chris Gregory, classmate.
Joe Hegnal is a parent who knew the boys well. He said they were good mannered teens with a bright future.
“We had an open door policy,” said Hegnal. “They’d come in, they always knew they could come into our house.”
Hegnal hopes the tragic loss of the two teenagers will cause other students to be more careful behind the wheel.
“Life is too short. All these kids just need to slow down and take their time,” said Hegnal. “Streets are slick. There’s black ice. It’s very dangerous.”
A spokesman for the Missouri State Highway Patrol said the investigation into the crash is continuing.
