(KTVI) – The harsh and long winter is to blame for the highest number of flight cancellations in more than 25 years.

It is the highest total number and percentage since the winger of 1987, when the Department of Transportation first started collecting data. US airlines have cancelled more than 75,000 flights since Dec. 1. Last week, 14,000 of those flights were cancelled.

The weather is also to blame for weak consumer sales.
