(KTVI)-- As friends and relatives mourn the deaths of three people brutally stabbed to death last week community members are stepping forward to help the survivors.
A violent rampage on Valentine`s Day took three lives and left one woman in critical condition.
Jessie Kavanagh survived an attack by her estranged husband Shawn Kavanagh. But two co-workers she was with at a trailer outside Jonesburg did not. Tara Lynn Fifer and Lexy Vandiver were killed on February 14th. Several days later, first grader Mason Vandiver died of his wounds.
Thursday night mourners attended a visitation and funeral at Martin Funeral Home in Warrenton for Tara Lynn Fifer. Wednesday they remembered Lexy Vandiver and her 7-year-old son Mason.
Sharida Mitchell of Troy is one of many acquaintances and business owners who are now planning fundraising events to help the survivors. Her fundraiser will be on February 28th at 7pm at Sacred Heart School in Troy.
In Warrenton, the school district staff is raising money for the 18-month-old survivor by holding a dress down day for faculty and staff. On Friday, Lutheran Charities is bringing in k-9 comfort dogs from Joplin and Concordia Missouri to meet with Mason`s classmates.
Mason is remembered as a lively first grader who attended Warrior Ridge Elementary in Warrenton.
22-year-old Tara Lynn Fifer worked as a CNA with her friends Lexy and Jessie at New Florence Care Center. She and her mother both worked at Applebee’s in Warrenton.
As residents rally around the survivors, the Warren County sheriff he has the right suspect in custody. The suspected killer, Shawn Kavanagh, now faces three counts of first degree murder and a series of other charges.
