(KTVI) – The Illinois Department of Transportation has reopened the Brussels and Kampsville ferries that cross the Illinois River in Jersey and Calhoun Counties. IDOT reopened the ferries after conditions on the river allowed operations to return to normal, as ice on the river has lessened and broken up.

However, the long range weather forecast is calling for more cold weather, and motorist need to be aware that the ferries may close again due to ice on the river.

Motorists should consider using the Hardin Bridge to cross the Illinois River in Calhoun County, if ferry operations are suspended.
