East St. Louis man charged with stealing $20K of metal from IDOT

COLLINSVILLE, IL (KTVI) – The Madison County State’s Attorney’s Office has charged 61-year-old Soloman Craighead of East St. Louis with the theft of metal galvanized post from the Illinois Department of Transportation. The posts are valued at $10,000, and were stolen from a construction site near the Chain of Rocks Bridge on I-270 from January 4, 2014 to February 23, 2014.

Illinois State Police are investigating the thefts, and believe thefts occurred on four separate occasions.

Police further state that Craighead wore a hard hat, and official clothes to lessen suspicion of drivers passing by the construction site.

For Craighead’s efforts, he only got $3,500 from local scrap yards.

Craighead has been charged with the theft $20,000 worth of metal, he’s currently being held at the Madison County Jail on a $50,000 bond.
