IDOT needs $47M to cover snow removal cost

(KTVI) – The harsh winter has forced Illinois Department of Transportation to ask lawmakers for $47 million dollars to cover this winters snow removal cost. IDOT will use the money to cover extra costs for overtime, additional road salt and fuel, as well as the hiring of temporarily employees.

The agency used an estimated 1 million tons of salt this winter, that’s more than the previous two winters combined.
