NORMANDY, MO (KTVI)-- The Normandy School District has had a tough year with school transfers and serious financial troubles.

But the Normandy High Choral group has been a shining light for the district.

They earned the trip through an audition recording to perform at the National High School Choral Festival in New York City over the weekend.

The group returned to St. Louis Monday more excited than when they left for the trip on Friday.

Eleven high school seniors and six adults said their performance was met with a standing ovation from the Carnegie Hall crowd.

Out of 60 high school choir applicants from across the country, the Normandy High Choral was one of four choirs selected to perform at the festival.

Many seniors said it was their best performance so far this year.

The group got to see some of the New York sights during their short trip including a Broadway show, Times Square and the Empire State Building.

The Normandy High School Choral is back to rehearsals Tuesday getting ready for a spring concert, the spring musical and a trip to Chicago in June to perform in a gospel music festival.
