RICHLAND, MI – A mother set up a Facebook page to show her son that he is loved on his 11th birthday. The “Happy Birthday Colin” Facebook page now has over 2.1 million likes and countless messages of love and encouragement. Colin didn’t know about the viral campaign until Friday. The surprise was revealed on television.

Colin called that day “really big and confusing day” and explained it took a while for him to fully comprehend what had happened. He suffers from sensory-processing disorder. It is similar to Aspergers syndrome and makes it difficult for him to socialize. It can also make it difficult for him to make friends. This is one of the reasons his mother started the Facebook page.

“I’m sorry you didn’t see my big reaction on TV because when I was off cameras I was really excited when I figured it out. But I’d like to thank you, the 2.1 million of you, just supporting me in this and liking my Facebook page that I didn’t even know about at the time,” Colin said.

In the YouTube video, Colin also offered to sign autographs or take pictures with any of the new friends he encounters along the way.

Such a sweet little boy. I cant understand why he would have a hard time making frfiends…he doesnt seem to be too shy, he has a great speaking voice and he just looks like a nice kid. I hope his schoolmates see this and realize what they have been missing in not befriending this yhoung man. Good luck Colin and have a lot of fun at the park…If I ever see you in St Louis, I will gladly you shake your hand and tell you in persion that I would love to be your friend! I am 66yrs old and I hve many nieces & nephews and I love being with them. Age doesnt make a difference for having fun and caring and loving one another. I will keep you in my prayers and hope that you have a bright future. One that is filled with many, many friends! God Bless YHou young man!
