ST. LOUIS (AP) _ Former Republican state lawmaker Jane Cunningham says she won’t be entering the race for St. Louis County executive.

Cunningham was asked by county Republican Party leaders to consider challenging the Democratic primary winner in the November general election. County Executive Charlie Dooley faces an August primary challenge from County Councilman Steve Stenger.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch (bit.ly/1oA8JEx ) reports that Cunningham said Wednesday that county Republicans have another candidate in mind. She declined to identify that person. Two other Republicans are also on the ballot.

Cunningham currently serves on the elected board for the Monarch fire district in Chesterfield.
