(KTVI) - Is surgery a quick fix for type two diabetes? Saint Louis University Cardiologist Dr. Michael Lim recently returned from a Washington D.C. medical conference where that option was discussed. He talked to John Pertzborn about type two diabetes and bariatric surgery, which decreases the amount of food a stomach can hold.

Obesity often causes type two diabetes and the two can lead to heart attacks and stroke. Bariatric surgery could move diabetes patients away from medications like insulin shots and toward surgery. But, many experts are skeptical that benefits seen would last.
