SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, MO (KTVI)-- With President Barack Obama proposing a new round of military base closures, Illinois' two senators have been bringing out the heavy artillery to protect and defend Scott Air Force Base.

On Tuesday, the Secretary of the Air Force Debra Lee James toured the base.

She told the delegation, that included both U.S. Senator Dick Durbin and Mark Kirk, that if she was a betting woman, she would double down on the future of Scott Air Force Base.

Area leaders and businesses say they are encouraged by her words, but realize a base closure commission will ultimately make the decision.

So she’s “impressed” with it? Wha’? Had she never even heard of it before or something?

If we’re going to cut our budget by cutting fat and waste, the military is the FIRST place to start! Waste and fat abound – cut a few of these bases and nobody will notice any difference.

The only problem will really be finding some of these lifers jobs they can actually do.
