Bennie the sea lion dies at St. Louis Zoo

ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)– A popular animal at the St. Louis Zoo has passed away. Bennie, the sea lion, died Friday afternoon. He hadn’t performed for the last two weeks while he was receiving care.

A necropsy will be performed to determine the cause of the sea lion’s death. Results won’t be available for several weeks.

Bennie was born at the Zoo is 2002 was part of the zoo’s sea lion show for seven years.

In a statement, the St. Louis Zoo called him a “A leading ambassador for the Zoo” and said he’ll be remembered for his loving nature and high spirits.

First Bank Sea Lion Shows will continue this weekend as scheduled.
