Wainwright Throws Two Hit Shutout, Cards Beat Nats 8-0

Adam Wainwright was near perfect on Thursday night in Washington, D.C. The Cardinals aces threw a two hit complete game shutout in the team’s 8-0 win over the Nationals.

Wainwright retired 19 Washington batters at one point. He struck out eight hitters in the game, his 17th career complete game. The Cardinals offense pounded out 14 hits. Matt Adams led the offense with one hit and three runs batted in. Matt Holliday added two hits and two RBI.

The win gives Wainwright a 3-1 record in 2014 and raises the Cards season record to 10-6.
