Man who struck cyclist charged with drunk-driving

ST. CHARLES, MO (AP) – A Texas man faces second-degree assault charges after allegedly striking a bicyclist while driving drunk.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that 47-year-old David E. Walker of Plano is accused of hitting 39-year-old cyclist Jeffrey Weckerherlin Wednesday evening on Missouri Highway 94.

The Missouri Highway Patrol says Weckerherlin suffered moderate injuries and was taken by ambulance to a local hospital.

Walker was jailed on a $50,000 cash-only bond. The assault charge incorporates his operation a motor vehicle while intoxicated, resulting in injury.

    So, is this one of those cases where if the driver had NOT had two beers, it would have all been the cyclist’s fault because he was riding without a light against traffic against a red light (I don’t know that, just a supposition – you right-wingers may need to look that word up)??

    But no matter WHAT the cyclist did, or no matter WHAT the circumstances or real cause of this accident, is this guy being blamed because he happened to be drinking?

    Or was he that drunk it really DID cause him to hit this guy?

    Alas, because of our religious moral law forced on us today in America, drinking is bad and hence always the cause of everything no matter what. So we’ll probably never really know.

      Matter only because you make the headlines 99.9% of the time. Not much news comes out of rural areas, they tend to take care of their own problems.

    I read the roport the biker was at fault just because david walker had been drinking they are making this a big deal. no light on the bike and driving the wrong way into traffic also. Police are just stupid here in st louis this is crazy.
