(KTVI) - The better halves of the Boys of Summer are letting bowlers earn bragging rights and helping kids stay mentally healthy.
Nikki Jay is wife to St. Louis Cardinals center fielder Jon Jay. Marie Craig is married to Cards right fielder Allen Craig. The ladies told FOX2’s Kim Hudson about the Jay-Craig Celebrity Bowl.
The two couples will host a bowling tournament to benefit Great Circle. The organization works to give families options in seeking mental-healthcare for their kids.
When Nikki was a teenager, she volunteered for Edgewood School. She said, even today, the same school is still maintaining small class sizes for kids with mental-health needs now that the campus houses Great Circle.
“So, whatever they need a little extra help in, everything is so tailored to what they need. It really helps them advance in the long run because they are getting that one-on-one attention.”
The staff even offers to help with adoption and foster care and use outdoor adventure therapy as a tool to help children. If there is a crisis in the family, the people at Great Circle can step in and get the kids the help they need.
“I think that a lot of times, mental health is not treated or talked about as other areas of health,” Marie said. “It’s a little less focused a little less tangible.”
Marie wants to help the organization continue to spark real discussions and help for families. You can help and have fun at the same time.
