August Busch III defends executive pay plan in A-B pay discrimination trial

ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - The former king of beer on the stand today in a gender and wage discrimination lawsuit against Anheuser-Busch. This is the fourth day of testimony in the trial.

Former Anheuser-Busch CEO August Busch III is defending the executive pay plan at the family brewer he led for more than a quarter-century in a closely watched sex discrimination lawsuit in St. Louis.

Busch took the stand Friday on the fifth day of trial in Francine Katz's gender discrimination lawsuit. The 76-year-old retiree verbally sparred with a member of Katz's legal team, frequently correcting the attorney's summation of company records while asking his own questions from the witness stand.

Katz was the company's top female executive as its vice president of communications and consumer affairs before her 2008 resignation. She says she was paid less than half the base salary of her male predecessor and was called ``ungrateful'' by Busch when she complained about the wage gap.
