Suspect in custody after bomb scare at St. James motel

ST. JAMES, MO (KTVI) – One man is in custody after an employee at the Finn Motel in St. James Missouri discovers a note on motel room door indicating a bomb was inside. Officers arriving at the scene saw 2 gas cans strung together, wires running from them when they looked into the room through a window.

Residents at the motel were evacuated and a perimeter was established. The Missouri State Highway Patrol Bomb Squad and the Rolla Police Department Special Response Team were called in for assistance.

A robot was used to disarm the potential explosive device and remove the two gas cans.

The gas cans were found to be empty and no explosive devices were found.

A suspect was taken into custody and transported to the Phelps County Jail.
