Former closer Jason Motte is very close to returning to the Cardinals after successfully rehab from Tommy John elbow surgery. Motte pitched two innings last night in Memphis for the Cardinals AAA minor league team. Motte returned to St. Louis on Friday and will await more doctor's and team officials reports to see when he will be activated back onto the Cardinals big league roster.
The team has not announced Motte's role when he does return to the Cardinals bullpen. Trevor Rosenthal is the Cardinals current closer. He has 12 saves already this season.
