(KTVI)-The St. Louis Cardinals have activated pitcher Jason Motte from the 15-day disabled list. The former closer will be on the team’s 25-man active roster for Monday’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Pitcher Sam Freeman was sent back down to Triple-A Memphis Sunday to create room for Motte.

Motte, 31, last pitched for the Cardinals in the 2012 postseason. He missed the 2013 season after undergoing “Tommy John” surgery last May.  Motte was the National League co-leader in saves (42) in 2012.

Motte hasn’t allowed a run in his rehab assignments with Double-A Springfield and Memphis .
