ST. LOUIS (KTVI) - The Cardinals are playing at Busch Stadium, but it's who they are playing against that is big news.

The usual sea of red here is peppered with splotches of blue. The New York Yankees are making a rare appearance here, and so are there fans.

The Yankees are here to kick off a three game series. This is only the second regular season meeting between the two teams in St. Louis.

The last time the Yankees were here was to play the Cardinals in the 2005.

And while we ran into a few Yankee fans here from New York, most of those we met actually live in Cardinal Nation.

Joy Turner, Yankees Fan: “So you live all the way in Kentucky but you are rooting for the Yankees instead of the Cardinals? Yes sir. The Cardinals is our second favorite team but Yankees are number one in our heart so we are here.”

Kelly Couleas, Yankees Fan: “We are born and bred new Yorkers so that is where we were raised. We are Yankee, Giant and Ranger fans. But you live like an hour from here and we are Cardinals fans when the Yankees aren`t in town.”

Jeremiah Eoff, Yankees Fan: “You are from St. Louis.  Yes. And you are a Yankees fan? Yes.  What`s wrong with you? There are conflicting reports on that.

Of course part of the draw to the Yankees this year is that it is the last for Derek Jeter, so there are a lot of number 2 jerseys in the ballpark today.

Some of the Yankee fans were met today came from Chicago, where they watched the Yankees in a six game series with the White Sox.

In addition to being the first time in almost a decade the Yankees have played in St. Louis, this is also the 50th anniversary of the Cardinals-Yankees World Series.
