(KTVI)- The White House announced Thursday that Kevin O’Malley, an attorney with Greensfelder, Hemker and Gale in St. Louis, would be nominated as the next United States Ambassador to Ireland. O’Malley would succeed Pittsburgh Steelers owner Dan Rooney, who left the post in 2012. O’Malley, is a former Assistant U.S. Attorney and has been influential in Missouri Democratic Party circles. He reportedly attended the White House state dinner held in February to honor French President Francois Hollande.
The move to tap O’Malley came after speculation focused on the possibility that former U.S. Rep. Russ Carnahan (D-St. Louis) or his brother Tom, a prominent donor, were under consideration for the post.
