NEW CAMBRIA, MO (AP) – An investigation continues after a Missouri trooper was involved in a shooting.

The Quincy (Illinois) Herald-Whig reports that the shooting happened Sunday morning in northern Missouri.

Authorities say 25-year-old Jeremy Lee Orona of Chula was wanted for probation and parole violations. He was allegedly spotted driving a stolen pickup truck near Bucklin.

A Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper pursued the pickup into Macon County, where the truck was abandoned in a field. Later, police determined Orona had been picked up by a female acquaintance. Her vehicle was pulled over on U.S. 36.

The patrol says that when officers approached, Orona pointed a handgun and fired a shot.

The trooper shot Orona in the leg. He was treated for the injury and is jailed on several charges.
