BREESE, IL (KTVI) - A person of interest is in custody for the death of a Metro East woman.
The victim died in a hit and run in Breese, Illinois. Her family says the news is a sigh of relief.
Lana Albert, 23, was a dental assistant with a bright future. She was walking in the middle of north bound US 50 early Sunday when she was struck by a vehicle. Albert’s family says that's out of her character.
According to police, Albert had been out with a few friends the night of the accident at a local bar. Police received a report of someone walking in and out of traffic and they found her body a short time later, around 300 yards from bar. The victim’s family hopes with the person of interest in custody more questions will be answered.
As family prepares to bury a woman they say brought joy to many, they are grateful to police for working around the clock to investigate the case.
The Clinton County prosecutor now has the case, and we're told charges could come Friday.
Visitation for Albert is Thursday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at City Hope Church in Centralia, IL The funeral is Friday at 11 a.m. at City Hope Church.
