BREESE, IL (KTVI) -  A person of interest is in custody for the death of a Metro East woman.

The victim died in a hit and run in Breese, Illinois. Her family says the news is a sigh of relief.

Lana Albert, 23, was a dental assistant with a bright future. She was walking in the middle of north bound US 50 early Sunday when she was struck by a vehicle. Albert’s family says that's out of her character.

According to police, Albert had been out with a few friends the night of the accident at a local bar. Police received a report of someone walking in and out of traffic and they found her body a short time later, around 300 yards from bar. The victim’s family hopes with the person of interest in custody more questions will be answered.

As family prepares to bury a woman they say brought joy to many, they are grateful to police for working around the clock to investigate the case.

The Clinton County prosecutor now has the case, and we're told charges could come Friday.

Visitation for Albert is Thursday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at City Hope Church in Centralia, IL  The funeral is Friday at 11 a.m. at City Hope Church.

Metatronking, I guess you were there that night and know all the details? First of all, a family is dealing with the loss of a loved one and I’m going to assume that you have never lost a child or even have children, because if you did your heart would be breaking for them despite any circumstances. When you experience the pain of losing a child, you don’t want anyone to ever have to experience that pain, even your worst enemy. It makes me sick that there are people out there that can make such disgusting comments and not feel bad about it, but that’s the world today, and there is nothing I can do about it except keep you in my prayers. And that I will do. We are all human and we all make mistakes and bad decisions and God loves each and everyone of us just the same. We also have been given this wonderful gift of forgiveness that gives ALL of us sinners the chance to enter Heaven for eternity. I didn’t know Lana, nor do I know the circumstances of the situation, nor do I care to know the circumstances because it is all irrelevant. What matters is 2 parents are experiencing the worst pain they have ever experienced, along with the rest of the family and friends that are hurting, and we as human beings should be considerate and show love to those around us whether we know them or not. I hope that you can find a place in your heart for this family and the pain that they are going through. Along with you, this family will be in my prayers.

If the person hadn’t left the accident; they mite be clear by now. She was partly to blame. She had been at a bar and the report of a drunk person walking in an out of the road way. It could have been avoided. It is sad it came out this way.

METARONKING is always saying something rude and evil, he is an unhappy person, people like him, you have to look beyond, he’s unhappy with his life and is just a negative person, he should go seek help instead of always commenting on every article. This is nothing new, just a sad individual who seeks attention and is lonely.
