ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KPLR) – The St. Louis Parks and Recreation department, the Demetrius Johnson Foundation and NASCAR brought the Drive for Diversity combine to Forest Park Thursday.

The Drive for Diversity pit crew combine gives minorities a chance to see if they have what it takes to earn a spot on a NASCAR pit crew.

“It`s a great experience…something different for me, but something I want to try,” said Nick Peoples.

Phil Horton is the man fueling NASCAR’s Drive for Diversity effort. He`s helped dozens of minorities find jobs with NASCAR.

“It’s all about inclusion of everybody and expanding the fan base,” said Horton.

The combine comes as Gateway Motor Sports Park in Illinois prepares for NASCAR`s Drivin` for Lineman 200 Saturday.

“Some of these guys that you are going to see here could wind up racing at Gateway Motor Sports Park,” said owner Curtis Francois.
