EAST ST. LOUIS ( KTVI)- A well known dancer and singer from East St. Louis was gunned down across the street from her home. The victim's family believes the tragedy could have been prevented.
Angela Heard, 48, was shot in the head early Friday morning at a 24-hour convenience store in East St. Louis. The store is located across the street from her home at 15th and Missouri Avenue. Police are seeking suspects in the case. "We are interviewing as many people as we can and we are hoping that anyone with information will come forward with anything to assist us," said East St. Louis Police Chief Michael Floore.
Heard traveled the world as a dancer and stage performer. Heard was the youngest of 13 siblings. Family members gathered Friday near a make-shift memorial site where Heard was gunned down to pray, sing songs of praise and pay tribute to the performer.
"My aunt was one of the most loving people that I knew. Anything that you needed she would give from her heart. She had a really kind heart," said her niece Retunda Jackson.
Family members say Heard's money and debit card were missing and they believe she was robbed.
"We know she had money on her. We know when she was found she did not have the money with her," said Jackson.
