ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - Residents in Tower Grove Heights are on high alert after a neighbor was attacked, and his car was stolen, while pulling into his garage.

The victim tells FOX 2 he usually pulls in all the way and shuts the garage door before getting out, but this time, he stopped halfway and got out of his car to pick up a piece of chewing gum caught under the seat.

“The next thing I knew somebody was attacking me,” says the victim, who asked not to be identified, “and he just kept wailing away at my head.  I just remember it was the scariest thing, just thinking, am I going to get out of this?”

The victim finally broke free, but the thieves drove away with his 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix, along with phone and wallet, left in the car.

The attack left him with several cuts and bruises on his face, swollen spots on his head, and headaches.   But what really bothers him is that crime on his block seems to be a trend within the past few weeks:  “There’s been two other burglaries, right across the street from me during the day, and one happened seven houses down from us, so we’re just all very concerned.”

Neighbors will meet Wednesday night to discuss safety.  As for the carjacking, the stolen vehicle hasn’t been recovered yet, and police say there are no suspects at this point.
