ST. PETERS, MO (KTVI)-- Over the weekend a St. Peters home was hit hard by Mother Nature.

The lightning strike that caused nearly half a million dollars worth of damage.

On Woodmere Court the only things that are standing are the two fire places. Thankfully the family was not home at the time of the fire. They were at the Lake of Ozarks, which is the main reason the home is completely gone.

Neighbors got a rude awakening at 2am Sunday morning. One of the neighbors at a safe distance shot the remarkable video.

Thankfully nobody`s was hurt because of the diligent work by the Central County Fire and Rescue Team, but this fire was a challenge to fight.

Now because of this fire neighbors in the area are getting alarms that notify them as well as the fire department so their homes aren't total losses.

There was no video of a lightning strike. The headline is misleading and does not convey what the story is actually about. Caught on tape: House destroyed by fire after a lightning strike.
