Grilling MOFU for your summer barbeque

(KTVI)-With the 4th of July holiday approaching, you might be planning a barbeque for a big group. No worries, the Grillin Fools guys always have great ideas for you if you'd like to try something new. This time, the guys take on grilling for the vegans or vegetarians in your life.  STL Veg Girl, Caryn Dugan has inspired them to grill MOFU, Missouri tofu made fresh every week in St. Louis with locally grown soybeans.

Recipe: Vegan Parmesan Cheese

Recipes from the Grillin' Fools Guys:
Simple Grilled Tofu

  • 1 block Mofu tofu
  • garlic infused olive oil
  • your favorite BBQ rub

Prepare the grill for high heat grilling (600+ degrees)

Brush the Mofu tofu with the garlic infused olive oil

Dust with your favorite BBQ rub

Place the tofu on the grill and wait for grill marks to appear (4-5 minutes)

Rotate 45 degrees to finish the cross hatch grill marks

Flip over and repeat on the other side

Remove from the heat and serve

Marinated Tofu with Grilled Roma Tomatoes

  • 1 block Mofu tofu
  • 2 tbsp balsamic vinegar
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp fresh minced garlic
  • 1 tsp garlic infused olive oil
  • white pepper
  • two roma tomatoes
  • salt and black pepper
  • fresh flat leaf parsley or basil
  • vegan parmesan cheese

Place the Mofu tofu in a plastic bag with the vinegar, soy sauce, garlic, olive oil and pepper

Marinate 4-12 hours

Prepare the grill for two zone grilling with coals on one side and nothing on the other and a target temperature of 250-300

Place the tofu on the side with no heat and a chunk of smoke wood on the other

Smoke for 30 minutes

Slice the romas in half lengthwise and coat the flat side with the salt and pepper and set aside

Move the tofu to the hot side of the grill to sear, waiting 4-5 minutes for grill marks to appear and then rotating the block 45 degrees

Once cross hatched, flip the tofu over and repeat on the other side

While the tofu is searing on the other side, place the romas on the grill, flat side down

When the romas and the tofu are sufficiently charred, remove from the grill, plate and top with the parsley or basil and the parmesan cheese
