ST. CHARLES COUNTY, MO (KTVI) – He was one of Tuesday’s All-Stars, but you would never know it if you bumped into him at an area animal shelter.

St. Charles County native Mark Buehrle and his wife Jamie are supporters of Hope Animal Rescues. The metro-east group formed following the need to save animals from Hurricane Katrina.

Volunteer Jen Jernigan is friends with the Buehrles. She says the couple stuck with supporting Hope Rescues after making a donation in 2008.

The Buehrles attend many of the organizations events and also get involved in the dirty work.

“He goes out there with brush hogs, pulls weeds, scoops poop, and I mean he does it all out there,” said Jernigan.

She says all the work the Buehrles do surprises some people.

“It’s actually pretty funny because people would think being a professional ball player he’s really arrogant, but he’ really not. “

I am a PROUD Hope Rescues volunteer and can tell you that Jamie and Mark are fantastic. They are just everyday people who have a love of dogs and the good that Hope Rescues is doing. Thank you, Mark and Jamie, for giving us a great sanctuary in which to find loving homes for those without voices.
