WATERLOO, IL (KTVI) - A Valmeyer man arrested Thursday night in connection with the stabbing of another man was ordered released Friday afternoon by the Monroe County State`s Attorney pending further investigation.
Waterloo police were called to a home in the 11-hundred block of Cottonwood Lane just before 10pm Thursday. They found 27-year old Eric Boyer of Waterloo collapsed with serious stab wounds. He was later pronounced dead at a St. Louis hospital.
Officers charged 20-year old Christopher Russell of Valmeyer with aggravated assault and locked him up in the Monroe County jail.
Waterloo Police Chief Jim Trantham said he believes the violent confrontation was the result of a domestic dispute. "It`s not a random incident; these are three people who knew each other."
Trantham said he thinks there was enough time that someone could have called police before the dispute got out of hand.
The third adult, Alicia Pence received superficial cuts when she tried to separate the two men. Her young sons, ages one and three, were present at her home during the fight. Neither was hurt.
Pence remained hospitalized Friday and police were waiting to interview her to complete their investigation.
This is not the first time she has faced the aftermath of a violent attack. Her former husband, Garrett Pence is awaiting trial on aggravated battery charges in connection with the severe beating of their youngest son in August of 2013.
Eric Boyer is survived by two daughters, his parents and four siblings. Visitation will be Monday from 3pm to 8pm and Tuesday from 9am to 10am at the Quernheim Funeral Home in Waterloo. The funeral service will begin at 10am Tuesday.
