Fox Sports national baseball reporter Ken Rosenthal tweeted out that the Cardinals will announce the signing of free agent catcher A.J. Pierzynski before Saturday’s Cardinals at Cubs game. Backup catcher George Kottaras was seen packing up his things after the Cardinals loss to the Cubs on Friday. Pierzynski was released by the Boston Red Sox last month. The 37 year old catcher will bring 17 years of experience to the Cardinals, who have been looking for a replacement for injured starting catcher Yadier Molina. Yadi suffered torn ligaments in his right thumb on July 9th and wont’ return to action until at least September.
