UNIVERSITY CITY, MO (KTVI) – Family, friends and classmates held a vigil for a man who was shot and killed Saturday in Heman Park.  Someone left a note to the shooter at Heman park.   A Reddit user snapped a picture of the sign and posted it to the St. Louis section of the website.

The sign reads, "To all of our youth: You are killing one another. You have put the KKK and some of the corrupt police out of business. You don't own any blocks, territory or hoods. Stop acting like animals and start to behave like the Gods that you are. Put down the guns and save yourselves. PEACE - RIP Mario."

It is not clear who left the message. But, the note is making the rounds on St. Louis social media.

Mario Wallace, 20, was shot around 7:15 p.m. in University City.  The University City High School alum was attending a reunion in the park.

A second victim, a 39-year-old man, was shot in the leg. Wallace later died from his injuries at the hospital. The shooting is under investigation.

Coming forward would never have been an issue for the hundreds of ucitians that were at the park. You must not know that ucity residents come together and show out. The person has been captured and if anyone is needed there will be more then enough to step in and step up on what happened… Thats not and issue in the ucity community and the person who did the shooting was not from ucity.

  • Cit Riverview

People who attend that vigil, I have empathy for your loss. But, if YOU PEOPLE want this type of behavior to stop, start looking at the culture from which those who killed your friend came from. White people can’t do this for you nor can the Government.

    • Just

“You people” Do not comment on an situation controlled by these “white people” and the government. Especially making an conclusive assumption that you indeed are “white” You do not know half the ingnorance that your “culture” has reproduced from the community of “You people”. We did it first

  • The Truth

To all of you who think that black people are worth nothing, you are sadly mistaken. How dare you judge something that you weren’t even there for. To BILL HITCHCOCK AND CIT RIVERVIEW, just shut your mouth because the vile and heinous things that you are saying make you sound like a worthless, uneducated, and trashy person.

    • Cit Riverview

You can go back and reread everything I’ve written. I never ever said Blacks are worth nothing. I said the group has to change what is happening in areas that crimes are being committed by black people. as for shutting our mouths and giving opinions about what happens in this country as it relates to black crimes, you are so out of touch. I’m neither uneducated, Vile, or trashy. Stop blaming white people for the actions of others. I wasn’t in the park, I didn’t kill the young man But a Black person did, and so, that’s where you should focus your rage. Not at a few white people giving you THE TRUTH.

      • rose

CIT, You speak the truth, TRUTH does not. He or she only knows how to put the blame everywhere except where it belongs. You have given more information, on this sight, pertaining to statistics and where to find them, than any news reporter could do, but won’t. They will not take the time to do a study on their own, the findings would be too difficult and show they are the only ones to blame. Of course it is not totally their fault, too much has been handed to them for too long. What will happen if that ever stops?

      • Michael payne

How dare you if you want to speak I. Crime yes we as a black people do heed to clean up our own back yard yard but he who gas not sinned shall cast the first stone yes we are killing our own just like your white people who do these mass killings that y’all do oing into schools killing young children going into high schools going into movie theaters hoping into malls n other rampage killings just like the mass killings of blacks during slavery just like the mass killings of Indians as you took there land just like the wars that this country has done around the world so like I said you n your race have blood on your hands all over the world

  • lily

Im disapointed in the fact that people are bringing race up.It hurts me in a time if need anyone would ever bring that up.This young man is dead at 20 thats so sad he had a future.Im sad for his family .I dont care what color of my skin people need to get together and be there for each other who cares what or who you are if you have goodness in your heart thats what matters.Be proactive make a positive change do something positive.People are gonna miss him and need people to turn to.

  • haynes

Sad. Pathetic. Someone comments and basically tells it like it is and the person who cant accept the fact, gets mad. There is a problem unique to this particular culture. Stop denying it. Theres blame because its the truth.

  • ean12967

Instead of tacking a piece of cardboard on a tree, why don’t you help men be better fathers and women be better moms.

  • Therealbyebyetotherite

Do black people do anything good in this country? Or do they just kill and steal?

    • Cit Riverview

If course they do. paint the canvas not with a broad brush. they have issues and THEY need to address them Not WHITE PEOPLE or the Government.

      • Mae

And all white people do is kill there selfs with drugs and think that black people owe them something when we owe you nothing stop being lazy sacks of nothing get up an work and stop looking for hand outs we know whats going own with our race why don’t you guys see whats going on with yours? stop being disreceptful an have an heart that could be your son father or even mother simple minded people

      • Cit Riverview

Mae, I’ll take self killing then going into an area and kill someone who is a stranger. So you want to play Apples and oranges. I can play percentages care to dance? I’ll say one more time. White people commit crimes, never doubted it nor make excuse for it. But I can say with great authority the same can’t be said for many Black so called leaders, I don’t need to tell you who they are. I said I have empathy with their loss. He was a son a grandson a brother. Your outrage should be directed to those whom come from the same cultural background as you hail from. Not directed at white people we don’t come into an area and kill the inhabitants.

  • Ace Baily

regarding the note or statement, animals do not go out and shoot each other, there is a natural world out there, and this is not part of it. animals have never shot one another.

  • Ucitian for life

Race became and issue in this how? The facts are this gathering has been going on for years without incident until now. It is sad that we had an incident here and white people have incidents as well usually killing and wounding more than just one or two individual. So yes there is a problem in the black community and lots of white communities has nothing to do with the incident… These post has a lot to do with the divide in this country as white people continue to think that they are superior to or better than the rest of the world. Hilarous what does the research say about that?

    • Cit Riverview

” as white people continue to think that they are superior to or better than the rest of the world. Hilarous what does the research say about that?” Another made up belief that Blacks think about white people.! Its another attempt to deflect the issues in the black community. I see a white criminals they gets my disdain as well as that black criminals.

  • Teri

Here is the problem with some of the comments that are made on here that are pertaining to race they are uncalled for. Do black people need to take accountability for things that happen in their community yes, but let’s be honest there are plenty whites and other races that have their own problems that they can address in their own community. At the end of the day these killings, drug overdoses, child abductions, robberies, and other crimes that OUR youth are involved in are not just an individual race problem. It affects everyone because if they rob you or kill your loved one seems like that classifies as a personal problem. People (all races) need to stop pointing the finger else where to make themselves seem to be more than what they are. ALL races are dealing with issues that are affecting our children so don’t minimize the real issue OUR YOUTH to make yourselves SEEM superior because it only intensifies the bigger problem in your community. A young man lost his life for something senseless and he is just one of many. It doesn’t matter if he was shot and killed or if he overdosed on heroin. It stills comes back to pain that those who loved him feel and that is not something that has a color. Pain is pain and every race can identify with that. So those that are speaking on race find something better to talk about because you never know who may have to support you!!

  • justice

Ucitian for life, you posted an uninformed and uneducated comment. In many third world countries, senseless murders do not occur like in the U.S. and in black neighborhood. Have you ever lived in any third world countries? Maybe or maybe not but let me tell you one thing: young people do not kill each other like the young African-American do. If BET stops promoting promiscuity through degrading music videos, parents stay home to properly educate their kids as opposed to be out in clubs (not all), young women stop spreading their legs at a young age and have babies with different men knowing these fools are not husband or father materials and the list goeson then who should be blamed?.I

    • justice

The real issue is how broken black families are. This starts at a young age and i blame he African American women. Nobody us forcing them to have babies at a young age. If they close their legs, how will they have babies who will probably grow up without any father figure in their lives? If have many friends who are single parents..wonderful folks who unfortunately made the wrong choice and decision two to three times with two to three different men. The ensuing results: babies with different dad’s no longer in the picture. This is prevalent in African American household and it is sad.

      • ucitian for life

wow and there is not more white woman on welfare in this country for this reason as well Justice. Wow you are very educated about black people. How about that is the problem with low income impoverished families period. More white than black welfare recepients in this country. Again Hilarious this is a society problem not a black people problem.

      • Just

Your ignorance to not see the cycle Blacks have been placed in is sad. It is an cycle created by your ingnorance. If you feel so strongly about the situation then do something. If you feel your “being” is higher than blacks then wipe me and my BEAUTIFUL RACE out. If not then sit back and enjoy your privledged life.

    • ucitian for life

Justice my uneducated comment was about the thrid world countries you have been and always will be fighting or at war based on their religious beliefs. Thanks for letting me know how uneducated I am about how many young people are being killed everyday in these countries. This is hilarious.

    • ucitian for life

Oh Justice maybe you should read it. I said impoverished communities similar to the ones in third world countries. Speaking of them not eating. Never said they were violent, but many do have a lot of violence as well. Maybe you need a class in comprehension. I will just say I feel sorry for the family. I will leave the blog alone, because race had nothing to do with this. The Ucity community is not like some of the other communities that you seem to be speaking of.

  • bug

What people need to realize is, we as a people divide this situation and others as a race issue. This is my little cousin that was killed and my family is mourning his death. Us as a people (humans period) need to do better by each other. Its not about race its about humanity. Until we stand up and take care of each other these horrific things will continue. Now who is willing to step up for another person, because its the right thing to do without race being an issue?

  • DPJ

First off, condolences to the (Wallace) family the city mourns your loss with you, may your faith in the MOST HIGH guide you through. Bad elements are a plague on all races in every city and neighborhood. We put to much trust in others to solve our day to day woes…police, politicians, etc., its not the job of a few it’s ALL our responsibility to stop this madness. That meaning whatever be necessary to preserve and make safe our streets and parks so that youth can be youth and our older citizens can enjoy their lean years. I personally get sick over the time we spend on a daily basis race bashing each other, we don’t have to LOVE everybody we encounter on a day to day basis, but we all need to be better keepers of our brothers/sisters alike, no matter of race or religion. Don’t let the few destroy the goodwill of the most. Don’t allow your fears to disguise your courage. A judgment is coming, what will be said about the way you lived your life. May you all be blessed and find your peace.

  • Humanist

Stop telling people to “[act like god’s]”. Stop quoting dusty, old books of jumbled fairy tales as tho what cave people were willing to believe should have any bearing upon what is taken to the real world we live in… In short, grow up, stop hoping your imaginary friend will change things and start acting like grown people who control 100% where we are in this world. For fucks sake!

  • Cit Riverview

I understand that the police have someone in custody for the killing in Heman Park in u-city, Good news. Now I want to take this last opportunity .to share that I’m finished with posting on the FOX 2 Blogs about race. I hope and pray that the killings in the Black precincts stop, and that the black people and liberal white people stop making excuses for the behavior exhibited by a Minority of Black people. Sharing my feeling on race is falling on deaf ears. I’ve lived a long life and experienced many things. I see no solution for the behavior based on a culture that promotes bad behavior. Until you address it, you are doomed! This white Guy is out of here. Carpe Diem.

  • Ushitean

Ushitian, I apologize for all the people on her criticizing U City. They should all know based on crime statistics of that area that all people in U city are outstanding citizens!!!!

  • Uchitean

      Prison population
Whites, who make up 78 percent of the U.S. population, accounted for 35 percent of the state prison population. Blacks, who make up 13 percent of the U.S. population, were 38 percent of the state prison population. Hispanics, who make up 17 percent of the U.S. population, were 21 percent of the state prison population.
The national imprisonment rate for men was more than 14 times the rate for women.

      Homicide Statistics among Blacks
Let’s examine the statistics. According to the Centers for Disease Control’s (CDC’s) report “Deaths: Preliminary Data for 2011,” there were 15,953 deaths by homicide that year, for a rate of 5.1 per 100,000 population. In its “Crime in the United States: 2011,” the FBI gives a lower estimate for the number of murder victims: 12,664. Of these victims, fully half—6,329—were black. And yet blacks comprised 13.1 percent of thepopulation in 2011, according to the Census Bureau. (These figures square with thosereported by the Wall Street Journal last August.)

      Abortion and Women of Color
The abortion rates among women in minority communities have followed the overall downward trend over the three decades of legal abortion. At the same time, however, black women consistently have had the highest abortion rates, followed by Hispanic women (see chart). This holds true even when controlling for income: At every income level, black women have higher abortion rates than whites or Hispanics, except for women below the poverty line, where Hispanic women have slightly higher rates than black women.

    • rose

LOVE, I am very happy, I made the big move and got out of there, before I had a tragic loss. Never been happier, never helped people more than I do now. When you said SOMEONE NEW, do you mean another tragic loss? If so, that is good, that means you recognize the horrible PATTERN here, that means you can see the pattern and refuse to deny it. Good, now if only more people could see it and say tomorrow it will be someone else, just as it turned out, it was, also today, on and on, the pattern that is.

    • rose

LOVE- Just because you ignore a problem, or refuse to address it, doesn’t mean it will go away. Why do you think people comment here, it is because they care, they want it stopped. Would you rather hear ” Oh well, it didn’t effect me personally, so I don’t care.”?

    • Cit Riverview

“THEY ARE MISERABLE” Your Da* right I miserable and angry. I see the lack of caring from Black people who have put forth the effort to succeed in this society and yet THEY won’t stand up to those who want to destroy everything in their path.
“TOMORROW IT WILL BE SOMEONE NEW THEY WILL BE DOING THIS TO” You are correct because it will be another innocent person of color laying on some cold corner and wailing and gnashing of teeth along with the candle light vigil will be held, and the next day it will happen again. But you and those like you make recriminations of me or others who see it for what is real. Your racial culture has Ebola, and your killing yourself just as sure as the disease does to those afflicted.

  • Love Conquers All

PLEASE STOP ROSE AND CIT RIVERVIEW. WHY MUST YOU TWO ALWAYS BE SO NEGATIVE WITH YOUR COMMENTS AND MAKE COMMENTS ON EVERY ARTICLE. CAN YOU TWO STOP FOR ONE WEEK? LOVE- LOL LOL LOL Now, your true self is showing. Mario lost his life because of a thug, and you can’t even stick to the subject. You are a hypocrite that assumes wrongly. I’m quite sure it doesn’t help his family to know that you approve of senseless killing, as the subject of this article. You must be miserable, all you can do is assume and bad mouth people whom are against murdering innocent people. You mentioned looking in the mirror, do you even have a FULL length mirror in your house?

  • WHITEUCITIANFORLIFE

UCITIANFORLIFE: as a WHITE U CITIAN FOR LIFE I implore you too to ignore these uneducated racists. And yes, when you begin to make judgements upon entire races based upon the acts of some, that is racism. No one anywhere will argue that we have a serious issue with black on black violence, but violence is rampant in white communities as well. While anyone can quote statistics these two seem to have an inability to think critically and to look at cause and effect and the honest to goodness big picture. How dare they take this tragedy and turn it into this. Their arguments are neither respectful nor productive. I don’t know about, you, Riverview and Rose, but in U City we have a code of mutual respect and we stick together. We don’t point fingers, we find solutions. You have no clue about all the positive movements that are springing from this tragedy, and our U C alumni group is already hard at work trying to figure out what we can do to try to prevent violence like this from occurring again. And not just violence against blacks or violence against whites, because here we don’t think in terms of color we think in terms of humanity.
