(KTVI) - His songs tell a story, the words filled with truth as they flow from the mouth of Theo Peoples, the only singer to have been a member of the legendary Temptations and the iconic Four Tops.

The son of a st. Louis preacher got his start in his father`s church as a piano player.

From there at the age of 22 the University City graduate quit his job as a concrete finisher to pursue music full time.

Then came the news that would change his life forever.

The world famous Temptations wanted Theo to be a member of their group.

According to Peoples his new lifestyle was decadent, filled with every possible vice. Vices that eventually led to his dismissal from the Temptations after a cocaine binge caused him to miss a curtain call

A dream that became more lucrative when the Four Tops came to Peoples with an offer to join them, but there was a catch, Theo had six months to get his life together, which he did, but after 12 years together he left the Grammy award winning group.

Through it all Theo Peoples only has one regret.

No more drugs, no longer part of a legendary group, no longer making the big bucks, and no more of the decadent lifestyle he lived for over 20 years.

Theo says he has never been happier.

The Temps and the Four Tops were 2 of the best groups in the 60s, and there were many very good groups in that era. Music took a dive in the 70s
