New Cardinals pitcher Justin Masterson won his debut with the Cardinals in the team’s 9-7 win over the Brewers on Saturday night at Busch Stadium. Masterson pitched six innings, allowed five runs, but it was enough to get the victory in his first start with the Redbirds.

Masterson got great offensive support in his winning effort, getting home runs from Kolten Wong and Jhonny Peralta. Wong had three hits and drive in three runs to lead the Cards attack. Matt Holliday, Jhonny Peralta and Tony Cruz all had two hits apiece in the game.

The victory pulls the Cardinals to within two games of the first place Brewers in the NL Central race. The Cardinals other new pitcher, John Lackey, will make his Cardinals debut in the deciding game of this three game series on Sunday at Busch Stadium.
