(KTVI) - A standoff in Creve Coeur has ended peacefully after nearly 11 hours.  Authorities say the suspect is a male and he is safe and in custody.

A police spokesperson told reporters that they were contacted by a concerned relative around 11:45 p.m. Sunday night.  The 27-year-old male had a firearm inside his apartment at Kings Landing located on North New Ballas Road.

Before officers arrived, the suspect fired a shot either by accident or some other means, but that prompted police to set up a perimeter and call in the tactical units.

Authorities say through out the morning, the tactical team was able to make contact with the subject and was eventually able to enter the apartment and resolve the situation.

The subject was taken to an area medical facility for evaluation.  There were no obvious signs of trauma to the  subject.

The street were reopened and residents are being allowed back into their apartments.
