BALLWIN, MO (KTVI) - A Ballwin family is picking up the pieces after a fire destroys three vintage cars.  The cars were in a detached garage that went up in flames.  It all happened at a home on Rauscher Drive not far from Manchester Road.

Firefighters received the call around 8:00pm Wednesday night.  When they arrived, flames were already shooting out of the garage and it could not be saved.  The garage and the cars inside it are a complete loss.  Mary Hanson says her husband was distraught when he saw the fire and the extensive damage that the flames left behind.

The cars in the garage were his love.

There were two 1966 Mustangs inside a convertible and a coupe.  There was also a 1932 Ford pick-up that that Hanson`s husband was working on.  Mary tells us she and her husband were going to give two of the cars to their kids but not now.

Fortunately, no one was hurt.

Mary and her family are grateful for that.

The flames also damaged the fence of the family`s pool although firefighters prevented the flames from reaching the actual home.

A spokesperson for the Metro West Fire Protection District says the fire was accidental and was caused by a mechanical problem in the garage area.
