MAPLEWOOD, MO (KTVI)-- Ryan Hummert Night at Rockwood Summit High School was held Friday night.

This is an annual event to honor the memory of Hummert who graduated from the school.

Jackie and Andy Hummert said that enough time has passed where they feel comfortable reminiscing about their son and telling this community thank you for all their support.

The whole Fenton community was rocked when Ryan Hummert was shot to death getting off a Maplewood fire truck on July 21st 2008.  He was a standout football player on and off the field at Rockwood Summit. Since his death, the school raises scholarship money to give to a football player.

His parents say they can't thank the community enough for all their support. His mother even shares her proudest moment saying, it's the young kids who talk so highly about her son and his legacy and what it's done for this community.

Now the scholarship is not given out until May, but it's given to a football player who holds the same type of leadership standards like Ryan did on and off the field.
