WEBSTER GROVES, MO (KTVI)- A Webster Groves home sustained heavy damage after it was likely struck by lightning that sparked a serious fire.

The homeowner David Addison, says the boom, probably the lightning strike,  happened about 11 p.m. Monday night. Addison says power went out for a time on the second floor. Everything seemed normal for about an hour and a half. Shortly before 1 a.m., smoke detectors went off in the house. He noticed smoke in the attic and got his wife and two kids out of the home.

By the time fire crews responded a short time later, flames were shooting from the attic. The fire went to a second alarm. The Webster Groves Fire Chief said the blaze was tough to fight because it was in the attic. Eventually, crews from several different departments helped put the fire out.

No one was hurt.

The core of the home is more than 100 years old.

Now the process begins of trying to see if the home can be saved.
