Suspects flee after attempted smash, grab at south city restaurant

(KTVI)- Police are actively searching suspects who were involved in an attempted smash and grab Friday morning. The burglary occurred around 6:00 a.m. at the Fortune Express restaurant located in the 6700 block of Chippewa.

The suspected thieves used a large object to smash the front door of the business.

According to police, the thieves were able to enter the store but it is unclear if any items were stolen. One suspect was inside when police arrived, but ran out of the back door. He was last seen running west toward the River des Peres.

Police and the K9 Unit are searching for the man underneath the bridge.
