Adam Wainwright pitched his third shutout of the season and won his 19th game of the year in a 2-0 Cardinals shutout win over Milwaukee on Wednesday night at Busch Stadium.  The game was a pitcher’s duel between Wainwright and Brewers pitcher Mike Fiers for nearly seven innings. Wainwright broke up Fiers no-hit bid with a two out single in the sixth inning. The Cards scored the game’s only runs in the seventh inning on singles by Matt Adams and Jhonny Peralta.

Wainwright improves to 19-9 on the season with the victory. He is now tied for the Major League lead in shutouts and wins. The Cardinals dropped their magic number to nine with the win. They still lead the second place Pirates by two and a half games, with just ten games to go in the regular season. The Pirates won their game 9-1 over the Red Sox on Wednesday night to keep pace with the Cardinals.
