ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – More than 150,000 people packed Forest Park’s Central Field for the Great Forest Park Balloon Race.

FOX 2 and KPLR 11 are among the sponsors of the event.

More than 60 hot air balloons from across the country took part in the competition. Once our FOX 2/News11 balloon took off, the other balloons followed hoping to drop a bag of bird-seed closest to where our balloon landed.

The pilot who drops their marker closest is declared the winner.

In 2014, the winner was the Miller Lite balloon piloted by Michael Boylen from Washington, Illinois. Boylen dropped the marker just 8.5 feet from the target.
