WILDOMAR, CA — A mother made the ultimate sacrifice when she refused lifesaving treatment for bone cancer. Ashley Bridges, 24, was 10 weeks pregnant when she discovered her diagnosis. Doctors recommended she start chemotherapy immediately. That meant she would have to terminate her pregnancy.
She tells KCAL-TV that, “There’s no way I could kill a healthy baby because I’m sick.” She opted to delay treatment. This allowed the cancer to spread and turn terminal.
Even with multiple rounds of chemotherapy, she was given less than a year to live. Family and friends are now helping to take care of her baby girl named Paisley.
She has no regrets. Bridges says, “Maybe I’m not supposed to be here and she is.”
