Missouri man gets life in prison for 1984 killing
ST. CHARLES, Mo. (AP) _ A Missouri man convicted of murdering an 84-year-old woman three decades ago has been sentenced to life in prison.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports 52-year-old Brian McBenge’s sentence delivered Thursday does not include the possibility of parole. He was convicted two months ago of first-degree murder in the 1984 death of Eleonora Knoernschild.
The case had gone cold until DNA evidence in 2011 linked McBenge and his brother to the crime.
The St. Charles woman was in ill health and lived alone. Her daughter found her on the floor of her bedroom in November 1984. Knoernschild’s home had been ransacked and she had been beaten and strangled with her bedspead.
Forty-nine-year-old Cecil McBenge was convicted of first-degree murder in the case earlier this month. He is scheduled to be sentenced next month.
