ST. LOUIS (AP) _ Parking in St. Louis may get a little more expensive next year.

City Treasurer Tishaura Jones told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that a study recommended raising parking meter rates to $1.50 an hour in high-demand areas and $1 an hour in low-demand areas. Rates in St. Louis are currently $1 an hour downtown and 75 cents an hour elsewhere.

The changes would be effective next July if approved.

Parking fines may also increase. The recommendation is for the base level of fines to rise to $15 from $10.

The city Parking Commission will vote on the increases in November or December.
