1 dead, 1 hospitalized after gunfire erupts in north city

ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)- One man is dead and one is hospitalized after gunfire erupts in north city. The shooting occured around 1a.m. Tuesday morning in the 4000 block of West Florissant Avenue.

At least two suspects fired the gun shots into a van.

Homicide detectives say at least 26 shots were fired at the victims. One victim was shot in the leg. He is in stable condition. The other man, who is in his 40s, was killed.

"Moments after the shooting, the son of one of the victims arrived at the scene. Police has to restrain him because he was so upset."

The murder rate has increased by almost 30 percent in the city of St. Louis compared to this time last year. More than 100 people have been killed.

At this point police don't have any suspects in custody.
