Mayor of Warrenton resigns

WARRENTON, Mo. (AP) _ The mayor of the eastern Missouri town of Warrenton is stepping down, citing health reasons.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch ( ) reports that Jerry Dyer read his letter of resignation during an aldermanic meeting Tuesday. He has been mayor of the town of 8,000 residents since April 2012.

Dyer said in his resignation letter that he was recently diagnosed with cancer for the third time. His resignation is immediate.
