ST. LOUIS (AP) – A former suburban St. Louis police officer has been sentenced to nearly four years in prison on federal heroin distribution charges.

The U.S. Attorney’s office in St. Louis says 41-year-old Parrish Swanson was sentenced Thursday. He was formerly a lieutenant for Hillsdale, Missouri, police.

Swanson and another former Hillsdale officer, 29-year-old Raymond Stephens, pleaded guilty in August. Federal prosecutors say Stephens stole heroin from a drug courier on behalf of a rival dealer in March and received $900. He provided $200 to Swanson, his supervisor.

Stevens will be sentenced Friday.

Hillsdale is in north St. Louis County and has about 1,400 residents.
