ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - Protester Bassem Masri appeared at a bond hearing Wednesday on charges of assault, attempted assault or physical contact of an officer.

The charges stem from an incident earlier this month where he allegedly spit on an officer while protesting in the Shaw neighborhood. Demonstrators gathered after a teenager was shot and killed by an off-duty police officer.

Masri has denied the charges.
